42 Chefs: Share our Strength/Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry Winnipeg

I grew up in a low-income neighbourhood in Toronto. When times were hard, my family went without proper nutrition. I remember going to school on an empty stomach some days and not being able to concentrate.

The Taste of the Nation event raises money for nutritional education and services for Winnipeg families in need and around the world.

Local beneficiaries include the Cooking Matters program at the Immigrant Centre and inner-city elementary school snack programs.

Christina Summers‘ childhood experiences drove her to volunteer with S.O.S. from 2009 to 2015. As co-chair in 2014, she led a cookbook  project that featured 42 of Winnipeg’s top chefs. She did all the photography, pulling the publication together in six months, setting a new fundraising record.

It Cookbook-Saleswas an amazing learning experience and I am extremely proud of the outcome of this project. The cookbook provided residual donation income for the charity all year long.
